Afrobeats singer, Yemi Alade has performed at the first-ever Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony held on Sunday at Alexandra Palace, London.
The Earthshot prize is a Nobel-like award founded by the Duke of Cambridge and renowned British naturalist David Attenborough.
It is awarded by the Royal Foundation to five winners each year for their contributions to environmentalism.
It was first awarded in 2021 and is planned to run annually until 2030.
Each winner receives a grant of £1 million to continue their environmental work in proffering innovative solutions to the most pressing environmental challenges currently facing the planet.
Yemi Alade, representing Africa, delivered a rendition of her hit single “Rain” at the ceremony, proudly adorned in African themed attire, a striking red ankara playsuit.
Speaking after her performance at the event, the “Johnny” hit-maker confessed she was elated to have been invited by the Royal family to represent Africa and perform alongside musical geniuses like Ed Sheeran, among others.
Alade expressed immense gratitude to the Royal Family for the rare honour accorded her adding it’s Africa’s time to shine on the world stage.
“The event was simply amazing and I am elated to have represented Africa and Africans on global stage. It’s our time to shine and the world is focused on our music. I appreciate the Royal family and Prince William for the honour extended to me”, she said.
In a post on her Instagram page, she appreciated Prince Williams and Duchess Kate for recognising and selecting her song as she shared photo of them exchanging pleasantries.
“Thank you for inviting us Prince Williams and Duchess Kate … and selecting my song “RAIN.”
“Happy to know the Duchess loved my dress and the Duke loved my performance at the #earthshotprize,” she wrote.
In another post, Yemi Alade shared several photos where she posed with legendary footballers, actor, Mayor of London and others.
